Lad's fashion
What's hot for fellas in fashion.
It’s time for fashionistas everywhere to start cracking your glow sticks and think rave. Although not a new phenomenon, with the growing popularity of new wave rave bands such as CSS and the Klaxons, the NME nu-rave look is set to be hot.
One shop that is doing the rave trend better then anyone else is my beloved Top Man. Their new shop on Grafton Street is an act of god. For anyone who may not be very fashion conscious, it’s a fresh environment with helpful staff that give you any fashion advice you need.
First of all, I have to say I am converted - I heart skinny jeans! I am yet to own a pair but as soon as I cash my first summer cheque, I’m running for them- Top Man have a wide range of skinny jeans.
The first thing to remember or this look lads, is fresh and bright. Think white jeans if you have the confidence and there’s also an amazing red pair that I don’t think I could wear myself but I will high five anyone who can. Any bright colour is better, as the red pair are a bit Mika (although he is a legend). Finally no the leg wear, I know skinny jeans don’t allow for the wearer to own a penis, which is intimidating for some guys, so a pair of bright, normal cut jeans does the job just as well.
As far as tees go, the whole skinny look is alive and well again this summer. I’m not a big fan of this, as I hate the way they are cut around the armpits but it’s easy to get over. However, if you’re going to wear one dancing REMEMBER DEODORANT! When looking for indie rave-tastic tees think off the wall, the crazier the better. Any skinny tee with a bright off the wall pattern it will do the job. Chequered is really cool on a tee alongside some florescent patterns- the look is very 1980’s/ early 90’s.
There are some really nice polo’s out there too, which take the more work-friendly, calm approach to the look. Horizontal stripes or simply plain will do so long as it’s fresh and fits with what ever else your wearing
For those cold days, Top Man yet again has a great selection of hoodies. As far as footwear goes there are loads to choose from. Basically, shoes for the rave look are your usual indie shoes- vans, slip on's or converse do the trick. If you’re going to buy a new pair and feel like splashing out there are some really cool choices. The best shops for these shoes are Urban Outfitters, Schuh and Office. Urban Outfitters have some very pricey but cool 1980’s Nike fluorescent runners that are great for this look. Top Man has some really cool slip on’s too.
The rave craze is one I’ve really one I’ve enjoyed, as a big fan of the music, and I love any look that gives you individuality and can be worn both night and day.
