Is your name safe?
Youth Voice: I'm very worried for the world's sanity... VERY worried.
Ok. Well here's the thing. Whenever I go on the Internet, I automatically do these 4 things religiously:
1) Check my email.
2) Read any new articles on SpunOut.ie.
3) Go onto the forums I'm a member of.
4) Other important things.
So one day (in teletubbie land), I’m on my forum when I notice someone, whose username is Battles, has started a new thread called "Deedpoll." And Battles tells us in this thread that a website named Deedpoll is a new (ish) site where you can legally change your name. Seriously. You must sign any legally binding documents from then on as this new name.
The only requirements are: You must live in the UK, you must be 18, and you must be willing to part with a small sum of money. Most of you reading this are probably thinking, "Oh that costs a BOMB! Why is he ranting on about it?" (Because ranting I surely am.)
Well your wrong.
It costs only £35 sterling. Now this is all well and dandy for those whose parents have named them hideous names such as: Helen Zass, Phil Mc Cracken or maybe Conor Bredin.
Now before you read on, has anybody seen any reason that I'd be worried? VERY worried? No?
Well considering it's the INTERNET and that identity theft is rapidly growing, imagine if one morning, you wake up a new person? As in your name? But you didn't give consent! Imagine if one day your name was Pearse Owen Bredin and the next day it's Shitty Mc Crack?
HAS THE WORLD GONE MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDD?!
Oh and those who know my friend and fellow spunoutter Aisling, better start getting used to calling her Princess Consaulea Banana Hammock the 23rd. It's her birthday soon.
