Human rights film competition

Opportunity to win a place at a human rights film school in Venice!

Article by : SpunOut.ie

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) is calling for entries to the Human Rights Film School competition this April. Irish filmmakers, directors, producers and scriptwriters (amateurs, students and professionals) can all enter by making a short film on a human rights issue.

The aim of the competition is to help the ICCL use film as a medium to raise public awareness about human rights in Ireland. Films need not necessarily be of high production value; the focus should be on tackling a human rights issue relevant to Ireland in an effective and original way.

The deadline for entries is 17 April 2009, and five entries will be shortlisted for public screening by the ICCL panel of human rights experts.

The winner of the Human Rights Film School will receive a place in the 2009 Summer School on Cinema and Human Rights in Venice (www.cinemahumanrights.org), a three week crash course on filmmaking for social change, which runs alongside the Venice Film Festival from 27 August to 16 September.

Full details of the competition and application packs are available on our competition website, www.humanrightsfilmschool.org or contact info@iccl.ie
