Government plans to fund more youth facilities
At last! Plans for more youth clubs, sports facilities, music and dance facilities to help prevent teen drinking and drug use.
The National Children's Office plans to develop a national recreation policy to provide secondary school students with more activities in their spare time. Minister for Children Brian Lenhian announced that money would be made available for youth clubs, sports facilities, music and dance as well as looking at providing casual activities where young people can hang out with their friends.
He said:
"We propose to deal with structured recreation and examine ways for young people to be involved in organised activities"
"We will look at ways of providing recreational activities for young people in a way where they will be less likely to be exposed to the temptations of alcohol or drug use."
