Get your job on!

Young people have been dealt a harsh blow with this recession. The rate of unemployment amongst young people is currently very high, with 1 in 3 young men now out of work. At the moment, there are over 90,000 young people on the Live Register. This is 20% of the entire Live Register. Many young people have also found themselves unexpectedly back at college due to the dearth of jobs, so if these people were not in education, the numbers would be even higher.
So, if you wanna get involved and have your say on the matter, the NYCI’s Youth Employment conference on the 5th of October 2010 might just be for YOU. If you are currently unemployed and are on jobseekers allowance or benefit, then you can apply for a FREE place (along with reimbursement for travel) at the conference.
The day will kick off with two expert keynote speakers, Jim Power and Paul Gregg followed by three workshops exploring the following issues: Employment Services and Welfare; Education and Training and Entrepreneurships and Internships. In addition, Vincent Browne will be hosting a panel discussion with political representatives, which will give young person the opportunity to get their opinions across and their questions heard.
So why not consider putting your oar in and giving it a go? You will get the chance to mingle, make connections and air your views.

- Impact of social welfare cuts on young jobseekers
