The campaign will include a legal challenge through the European Court of Human Rights to the government's ban on abortion. The legal challenge comes from 3 women who recently went through crisis pregnancies.

IFPA spokesperson, Catherine Forde commented:

"Since the first Constitutional referendum on abortion in 1983, Ireland has changed: more women living in Ireland access abortion services and more women feel angry and frustrated that they have to travel to Britain and other countries to secure these services".

The ‘Safe and Legal in Ireland' campaign follows the recent report from the UK Department of Health that 6,217 women from Ireland had abortions in Britain during 2004.
