C8 children's forum

The young people's voice in Edinburgh

Article by : SpunOut.ie

In the midst of the vitally important G8 summit in Gleneagles on the 6th July, 16 young people from 15 countries will discuss issues like trade, aid and debt, exploitation and children's rights at the C8 children's forum.

Organised by the good people at UNICEF, the C8 forum will have young people (aged between 12 and 17) from G8 countries as well as disadvantaged areas such as Sierra Leone, Bhutan, Yemen and Moldova. They will discuss much the same topics as the G8 summit leaders themselves: education, health, poverty and sanitation are amongst the issues to be explored.

At such a crucial period in world history, it is an excellent step to hold such a forum for young people worldwide. It allows youth to express their views at a high-profile event and to be given a much-needed say on the issues that matter to them, at a time when youth participation matters more than ever.
