Bush, god and politics

The truth shall set you free.

Like most of the anti-war campaigners (or hippies as we're more commonly known), I have been waiting a little impatiently for a certain U.S. president's downfall.

A while ago I thought I'd gotten my wish. Last time I checked, this was the real world and in the real world when someone announces that God has visited them in a dream and ordered them to kill people, you'd think "okay...lets get you to the nuthouse". But no, right wing America sang its praises and the rest of the world just shook their heads and said "Ah, well".

What troubles me the most is just how much George will be allowed to get away with. First he stole the 2000 election. Not only was nothing done about this but America re-elected him! Then there were the September 11th attacks. These were a little convenient for an under-fire, war-hungry president. He hit back blindly at Afghanistan and got the extended family of Osama bin Laden the hell out of America. And the American people just shrugged.

Then we had the good old war on Iraq. A war which no one wanted but America, being the biggest kid in the playground, got its own way. Every reason given for the invasion has turned out to be false. The only leg Bush had left to stand on was that an evil dictator had been removed from power. Refresh my memory, who put that evil dictator in power? Oh yeah, it was the U.S. Of all the men they could have chosen to lead Iraq, what are the odds they would choose a madman? Considering this is the country that elected George W. Bush to power, I'll let that one slide.

Given that everything Bush had claimed to justify his invasion has been revealed as a lie, it is not surprising he now claims that it was God who told him to go to war. Really it is the perfect excuse, a) because America actually believes him and b) because it's impressive that God visits you in you're dreams and most importantly c) Because this means the war on Iraq was actually God's fault and not George's.

Of course you would have to be a bit gullible to believe that, but this a country where the only thing worse than a communist is a traitor. Besides America is never wrong, is it?
