Position Description: Communications Intern
Hours of work: 15-20 hours per week
Duration: Three months (extendable to six on mutual agreement)
Reports to: Communications Coordinator
Remuneration: Local public transport reimbursement and daily lunch allowance
Main tasks:
These would be decided in conjunction with the communications coordinator on the basis of the needs of the section and the experience, competencies and interests of the intern but would include:
- Event management tasks related to press launches and media events
- Dealing directly with members of the media in order to maximise coverage of Amnesty International Ireland activity and messages
- Assisting the communications team with publication of Amnesty International Ireland material including the magazine, reports, leaflets, posters etc.
- Monitoring www.amnesty.ie to ensure content is in line with Amnesty International positions and guidelines, that it is up to date, and adding/drafting material to the site as directed by the communications coordinator
- Updating the contacts database and mailing lists
- Monitoring, maintaining and updating the Amnesty social media presence as a communications and campaigning tool
- Other administrative tasks in addition to or in lieu of the above, as required by the communications coordinator or communications manager
Basically, this position involves assisting the communications team in communications and public relations tasks.
Skills Required:
- Fluent speaker and writer of English
- Experience with working to tight deadlines
- Previous experience in the communications field
- Qualification in journalism, communications, public relations or related field
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Familiarity with MS Office products
- Keen interest in and/or experience in Amnesty International and its mission
- Flexibility
