Have you ever thought about volunteering abroad and making a real difference?
If so, the Suas Volunteer Programme may be for you. The 2012 programme is now open for applications and any interested person can apply.
What’s it about?
The programme gives interested volunteers the opportunity to work overseas for ten weeks, nine of these weeks in a in a community-based school or educational project in India or Kenya. The programme allows you to develop important professional skills and to learn about development issues.
The programme is well established and has been running since 2002.
Programme volunteers work full time with local teachers (40 hours a week). They help out with curricular development and activities, provide individual one on one support to children, produce teaching materials and provide IT support. Volunteers are also usually involved in extracurricular activities, such as sport, crafts and music.
The programme is a professional scheme and volunteers need to be aware that the programme can be demanding. It also includes “Global Perspectives” – a learning strand where Volunteers explore issues of development, including a week-long workshop in-country.
