Tanzania Youth Vision Association
Check out all the great work of TYVA in Tanzania.
SpunOut.ie connected with one extraordinary organisation called Tanzania Youth Vision Association, who are based in the capital Dar es Salaam. Levels of youth participation and engagement are extremely high on the agenda of TYVA; something Irish organisations must take heed of.

Every month TYVA hold a youth forum in the capital, inviting relevant Ministers and stakeholders to talk about certain issues that change monthly depending on the theme. For example, the focus was on environmental issues during the month of June. The volunteers hold a one day discussion with speakers, debate with them, hold a questions and answers section and subsequently write up a full report of suggestions and actions for the government and stakeholders to take. They then keep in touch regularly to ensure their suggestions are being listened to and met. This is real participation in its truest sense.

Click on our podcast discussion with TYVA taken during our visit to their office in northern Dar es Salaam. It relates to youth health and social issues that affect them in their own lives and also outlines what it is their super organisation does.
We initially met up with TYVA in the Soma Book Cafe in Dar es Salaam whilst the group were holding an I.T. training session. We also had the pleasure of chatting to Zena; a member of the group, about her thoughts on the environment. Check out the short video below.
TYVA is a youth led organization with non-partisan, not for profit, non governmental [NGO] funding. The organisation was created in 2000 to work in civil society, focusing on youth awareness raising and empowerment.
