My Life with Walk
Experience with the Walkinstown Association.
My name is Julieanne. I live at home with my mam, dad and brothers and sisters in Tallaght. I like all different types of music, from Bon Jovi to Abba! I also like movies and my favourite movie is the Mummy. It’s all about history in a strange kinda way. I am mad into laptops and xboxes- especially the xbox 360!
Before I started in Walkinstown Association, I wouldn’t even travel on a bus on my own. I was just so nervous about doing stuff on my own. I’ve changed a lot! Since I became more independent (what I mean by independent is my mum not coming in with me anymore), I’m really happy. It’s a goal that I wanted to achieve since I was 16, but I was always scared and kinda shy before and didn’t know how.
Community gardening project
The Bluebell Community Gardening Project was originally started up to show people what could be done to make the area a nicer place for people travelling on the LUAS. Most of the people who use the services in Walkinstown are now doing the Community Gardening Project in Bluebell. It was important to me that there were other people doing it with me. I still do Community Gardening every Wednesday.

Hair and beauty class
Hair and beauty class involved doing each other’s make up and hair, but this wasn’t my favourite subject!

Drugs awareness course
The Drugs Awareness course taught us all the different things that drugs can do to you. They also told us what type of tablets were ok to take at home and what tablets you couldn’t take without supervision from a doctor. I know about the different types of drugs now.

My biggest achievement - the mini marathon
I never thought that I would ever do a mini marathon until I started here in Walkinstown. I thought I wouldn’t have finished it. On the day I had to push and push myself, but I finished it with my cousins support. I did it because I thought it would be a big achievement for me and it was. If I can do a mini marathon, anyone can do it.

These are just a few of the things that I have achieved. When other people read this, I hope that they know that they can do things too.
I have gotten more confidence, and have even done presentations! I’ve run a mini marathon. I’ve got a drugs awareness certificate. I’ve got a FETAC level 3 in horticulture. I am travelling independently. I’ve made new friends and I’ve done all this in one year!
You can do it too.
