European Voluntary Service
Give your time in any EU country for up to a year.
The European Voluntary Service (EVS) is a programme whereby young people in Europe can be sponsored to volunteer in countries across the continent, including EU member states, members of the European Free Trade Association as well as in South East Europe, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
Volunteers on the EVS programme take part in specific projects in their host organisation and the tasks are agreed on beforehand. If they wish, volunteers can also gain a Youthpass certificate.
The EVS programme can last anything from two months to one year. Sometimes programmes are shorter, for example in the case of young people with disabilities or other difficulties.
Training is provided to the volunteer before they leave for the project or is given on site in the host country.
How to apply
In order to qualify for the programme, you need to find a ‘sending organisation’ that is registered with the National Agency (Léargas). That sending organisation then need to make an application to send the young person on the EVS programme.
If the sending organisation is not accredited with the National Agency (Léargas), they can apply to register.
You can look for a host organisation by going to the European Commission’s database of placements. You can also find information on opportunities at youthnetworks.eu.
How much does it cost?
You will be sponsored so it should not cost you any money.
Closing Date
There are five deadlinesthroughout the year:
- 1st February
- 1st April
- 1st June
- 1st September
- 1st November
The volunteer opportunity should start three months after the application deadline.
