End fur farming NOW

CIWF campaign out to protect our furry friends.

Article by : SpunOut.ie

What is the campaign all about?

Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) wants to put a complete stop to fur farming in Ireland. According to this group, minks and foxes are simply not suitable for farm life at all, because they have not been domesticated like other animals. So, being on a farm (even with lots of space) does not provide enough freedom for these animals. CIWF proposes that minks actually need to be kept in zoo like enclosures, if they are kept in captivity at all.

The zoo option would be too costly to maintain however, and is neither likely nor practical. Lastly, the CIWF holds that the methods of slaughter used in mink farming are inhumane and completely unacceptable. Therefore, the aim now is to ban fur farming in Ireland out right.

What results have CIWF gotten so far?

The Irish government has agreed to phase out fur farming over the next three years. However, legislation has not been put in place yet. This needs to be written in stone (or law as it were) in order to ensure that the changes go through without delay.

How you can help:

Put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, and write to the Irish Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney. Let them know how happy you are that the government have agreed to phase out fur farming, but that you feel it needs to be written into the law as soon as possible.
