The Poor Can't Pay campaign
Find out about the campaign against proposals to cut social welfare payments.
Many of Ireland’s leading organisations, charities and trade unions have clubbed together to launch The Poor Can’t Pay campaign. This campaign was founded as a result of the former government’s proposal to cut social welfare payments, as well as the extra money social welfare recipients receive at Christmas.
The campaign asserts that the poor of the country did not create this recession. Therefore, those collecting social welfare payments or living in poverty do not deserve to be penalised for the mistakes made by others.
Age Action, Barnardos, CORI Justice, European Anti-Poverty Network, Focus Ireland, Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed, Mandate, The National Women’s Council of Ireland, SIPTU and St. Vincent De Paul are all taking part in The Poor Can’t Pay campaign.
