Make a ripple

Seeing change is believing in change.

Mental health problems are extremely common in Ireland today (25% of the population will experience some form of mental ill health at some stage in their lives), but yet they are often shrouded in secrecy and guilt and kept hidden. According to a recent See Change report, 50% of respondents would not want others to know about their mental health problems, 47% would feel that others knowing would have a negative effect on career progression; and just 20% would be very comfortable working with someone with depression.

So, See Change is starting a social marketing campaign that aims to encourage people to share their experience of mental ill health and the problems it causes. The ‘Make A Ripple’ campaign is all about using social media to spread the message and raise awareness of mental health. It aims to build awareness and understanding of mental ill health and to challenge stigma and discrimination surrounding it.

How to take part:

Twitter

You can tweet about your experiences of mental health problems or a general plea of support for the campaign. These tweets will need to contain the hashtag #makearipple. Tweets with this hashtag (which acts as an index) will be put into the Make a Ripple portal where they will be displayed with the individual's twitter avatar.

Facebook

All comments to the See Change Facebook page will be shared on the Make a Ripple site to be moderated and approved before they are displayed on the Make a Ripple portal. The poster’s avatar will also be displayed on the Make a Ripple portal.

Make a Ripple Portal

You can choose to make their ripple directly through the Make a Ripple portal. These posts will be moderated and approved before they are displayed.
