15 and counting campaign
Sign the petition for better sexual health sevices for young people around the globe.
The 15 and Counting campaign has recently been launched by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). The campaign was launched to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development.
In 1994, 179 governments agreed on a comprehensive plan to give universal access to sexual health and reproductive care to all citizens living in their countries by 2015. The people born in the year the conference was held are now aged 17, but it seems these promises have not been followed through. The world is currently filled with young people. In fact the world now has a population of 1.5 billion people under the age of 18.
Unfortunately, many governments around the world seem unwilling to deal with the needs of young people. This will have major consequences in terms of sexual health as well as unplanned pregnancies.
The IPPF will present a petition to the secretary general of the United Nations to try to persuade governments worldwide to act on this critical issue. Young people need more sexual health care, better sex education and comprehensive contraceptive services worldwide.
Young people all around the world are working together to promote this campaign and raise awareness. To sign it, click here.
The deadline for the promises made at this conference is 2014 and governments must work to fulfil them.
