Act on your passion
Do it your way and make the world a better place.
Dare to dream it – believe it – do it – share the dream.
Whether you want to tackle animal welfare, homelessness in Ireland, world hunger or the need for more green spaces in your town, you can make your world a better place.
The key to change is to do something about the issues of importance to you instead of waiting for others to take action. Believe in yourself, your voice and your power as a change-maker. You’re not alone in wanting to make the world a better place - young adults are taking action and fighting for a better community, a better Ireland and a better world every day.
Finding the issues of importance to you:
Before you jump in feet first on your quest to change world, take a few minutes to write down the issues that are important to you. Focus in on your passion by asking:
- What do you see, hear or deal with in your own life that makes you want to do something – anything – to help make a difference?
- When you read the news, what are the issues that hit your heart, your mind and your emotions?
- What really pushes your passion for change button?
Decide what is most important to you – what are the first changes you would make to create a better world? Once you have a clear idea of the issue (or issues) you want to tackle, it’s time to prepare for action!
Preparing to change the world:
Get informed
It's important to learn about the problem before working on a solution. You can start by researching online and keeping an eye on news articles that relate to the issues you care about.
Search for organisations and groups (find contact details here) that are already fighting for change on the issues you care about, and link in with them to learn about what they do – and why they do it. It’s often useful to get some basic advice and support from other groups but don’t give up on your own ideas.
Spread the word
Tell others about the issue and ask them if they want to help. Remember, once you involve other people in your plan for change, it’s important to respects their ideas and opinions.
Plan for action
An action plan will act as your guide and compass when making a difference. How do you make a plan of action? By brainstorming! It's important to take the time to come up with creative, crazy and fun ideas and ways to make people aware, inspired and active in creating change on the issue of importance to you. It might be helpful to define your goal, map out the actions that will help achieve the goal, develop a time plan, and share out responsibility for putting the plan into action.
Do it now
Taking action is the key to turning your ideas into reality. Whatever you are planning, make sure you follow through on your ideas. It is action that creates real and lasting change in the world. Click here for links to current campaigns and action organisations in Ireland.
Evaluate
Once you have acted, it is important to review and evaluate each action so that you can become more effective the next time. You may want to look at how close your action went to plan, how well your action was advertised, what obstacles you met and how well every member worked as a team.
Keep the change happening
Take time to remember why you decided to take action and why you felt passionate about the issues you are tackling. Then zone back in on that feeling of passion, fire up your energies and jump into creating further change!
