10 ways to celebrate Earth Day
Getting green can be fun!
Earth Day is a day meant to celebrate and honour our Earth. It takes place on the 22nd of April every year.
It would be a shame to let the day pass by without celebrating it, so here are some fun ideas:
- Change your avatar on Facebook/twitter to green, to represent Earth Day.
- Hold an event to celebrate Earth Day. You could hold a street party, a craft fair or even a disco! Perhaps you could charge a small entry fee and use the proceeds for an environmental charity. You can register your event online by clicking here.
- Give a talk on environmental issues. Maybe you have knowledge on a particular environmental topic, such as the slow food movement or organic gardening. Well, your knowledge could help others. You could also register this event.
- Plant a tree. Planting trees is a great way of doing your bit for the environment, as trees reduce greenhouses gases. Plus, trees stick around for a LONG time so your contribution will live on and on.
- Make some nature crafts. Think outside the box and get natured themed. How about making a food tray for birds? Fill it with raw birdfeed and Bob’s your uncle!
- Listen to Earth themed songs. Sounds a bit naff, but why not? Make a playlist and bop around.
- Wear green and/or brown to show your allegiance to Earth Day. Dig out that brown scarf or green jumper.
- Cook an earth themed meal. Grab some local fruit and veg, some free range meat/vegetarian substitute and get busy in the kitchen. Invite your friends round to enjoy the feast.
- Have a spring clean. Dig deep and find those old and unwanted clothes, shoes and books. Then donate them to a local charity shop. You could also send old mobiles and other techie stuff to an organisation such as the Jack and Jill foundation.
