Free green training courses for jobseekers

Two green thumbs up to this exciting opportunity!

Green Works is a national programme that provides training in environment related skills. The programmes are FREE to jobseekers and include courses in Sustainable Tourism, Sustainable Construction Technology, Green Entrepreneur, Sustainable Architectural Technology, and Sustainable Land use.

Taking a Green Works course will sharpen your skills in the environmental aspects of the work economy as well as giving you valuable work experience via Green Works internships.

Courses offered include:

Sustainable Land Use – FETAC Level 5: This course is focused on the land and how the current environmental climate shapes it. Subjects on this course include ecological field methods, biodiversity and Ireland’s environment.

Sustainable Construction Technology – FETAC Level 5:
This course deals with the issue of sustainability and how it relates to construction and building. Subjects on this course include renewable energy systems, green building, building physics and heritage and contraction techniques. This course features a work placement.

Sustainable Architectural Technology – FETAC Level 6:
This course deals with sustainability and its relationship to design and project man agent in building. Subjects include green building, building physics, building energy rating and project management.  This course features a work placement.

Sustainable Tourism – FETAC Level 5: - This course is an introduction to concepts associated with sustainable tourism and provides practical training on how to put these concepts into practice. Areas covered include ecotourism awareness, green communications and green marketing.  This course features a work placement.

Green Entrepreneur – FETAC Level 6: This course is ideal for those wishing to start their own business. It focuses on green businesses and their development, as well as on the people that run them. Subjects include start your own business, green marketing and sustainable development in business. This course features a work placement.

Courses are open to: Anyone who has been getting an unemployment payment for at least three months.

When: Courses run from mid October 2010 to May 2011. The courses run on average two days a week.

Where: Green Works Hubs in Cork, Dublin, Sligo and Tipperary.
