Be aware

The more you know about environmental problems, the more you can do to help solve them.

  • Keep an eye out for environmental articles in papers and magazines.

  • Get to know what’s happening locally. Is there a problem with pollution? Are local wildlife habitats under threat by development? Join a local pressure group and get your voice heard.

  • If there isn’t a local environmental group, create one. It’s not hard to get people active if you lead the way.

  • If you feel strongly about something, make a formal protest. You can report local pollution to environmental health offices. You can also write to companies that are responsible for pollution. Better still, get a list of signatures from people who agree with your complaint.

  • If developers are planning buildings that you object to, contact the County Planning Office and write to your County Councillors.

  • Contact local newspapers and radio stations and make them aware of any environmental issues that worry you. If they don’t cover the story, keep calling!
