Hands across borders
Subject: Interview with Alex Walter, a young volunteer in Africa.
Zanzibar, the beautiful Zanzibar. If any one of you guys are heading over to that neck of the woods you must check out Jambiani village. Here we met up with a fantastic organisation called Hands Across Borders whose main priority is to provide health and education services to the local community.

Hands Across Borders has been innovative in its promotion of complementary health care services. In particular, the organisation has recently constructed a Chiropractic Wellness Centre in Jambiani, which is the first clinic of its kind in all of East Africa. They also run a restaurant and college where local youths are trained in all aspects of hospitality for free. It is an intensive two year learning and mentoring programme and sets up many of the locals for the next stages in their lives.

The organisation encourages active participation of youth which is something us SpunOutters were keen to explore further. Whilst there, we met up with a fantastic volunteer from Toronto in Canada called Alex Walter. We interviewed him and got his thoughts on development, health and social issues.

Thanks to all at Hands Across Borders. The gorgeous warm date and caramel cake made for us by the volunteers was worth the trip alone!
