Newstalk: Global Village radio activism programme
Sounds like change.
Do the airwaves make you want to nod off sometimes? Sick of the same old Pop beats knocking you into commercial conformity?
Here’s something well and truly fresh for your ears to enjoy, and if you’re keen on getting more deeply involved, for your mouth to move to:
Global Village, Saturdays, 7pm – 9pm
Global Village is the only live Equality focused space on mainstream Irish media which discusses social justice issues, human rights and equality in its entirety. Presented by a social activist and entrepreneur, Dil Wickremasinghe, the show is dedicated to creating an inclusive Ireland by giving a voice to those who are often ignored by mainstream media. Recent studies show that discrimination and social injustices thrive in times of recession and it is our mission to create awareness of these issues which affect all residents in Ireland.
In addition to in-depth thought provoking discussions, Global Village also features the expertise of Brian O’Reilly, Radio Solicitor, on a bi-monthly basis. Listeners can have their legal queries answered in the hope to encourage them to pursue legal advice in relation to their entitlements. Global Village also hopes to provide a platform for community organisation to create public awareness about their issues, current campaigns and instigate social change.
If you would like to contribute to the programme, email Dil or John on globalvillage@newstalk.ie If you missed last week’s Global Village you can hear it again through the listen back feature on Newstalk's website on www.newstalk.ie
And remember, if online is more your thing, voice your opinions and engage with others on issues like activism, politics, protest and more in the SpunOut.ie Forums.
