Job Title: Youth Engagement Officer
Reporting To: CEO
Purpose of Job: Responsible for youth engagement and mobilisation, youth protection, youth participation and youth initiatives.
Location: Dublin
Salary: €30,000 - €40,000

Development and delivery of youth engagement and mobilisation strategy:
- Support the development of the annual SpunOut.ie youth engagement and mobilisation strategy, aimed at ensuring SpunOut.ie engages and mobilises young people, primarily via the Internet, in relation to personal and social issues
- Ensure the engagement and mobilisation strategy is in line with the organisation’s strategic plans
- Responsible for the effective implementation of the engagement and mobilisation strategy
- Develop and maintain innovative and efficient youth engagement structures online and offline
- Responsible for the delivery of key performance indicators, as requested by line manager, in relation to youth participation, engagement, mobilisation and youth protection
- Evaluate effectiveness of all youth engagement, mobilisation and protection policies and activities, including cost-effectiveness and social impact
Youth protection:
- Support the CEO in an annual review & update of Youth Protection Policy
- Ensure that SpunOut.ie provides an age appropriate service and complies with best practice in relation to online and offline youth protection and duty of care
- Lead on youth protection reporting and actions, as outlined in the Youth Protection Policy
- Support moderation of SpunOut.ie online platforms, particularly in relation to youth protection and duty of care
Internal SpunOut.ie youth participation:
- Ensure best practice youth participation in all aspects of SpunOut.ie programme
- Be the first point of contact on all intern, participant and volunteer queries and provide support and communications to all volunteers aged 16 – 25
- Source and train interns and participants to voice their opinions on personal and social issues (via events, the media and engagement with decision makers)
- Liaise with Communications Officer to ensure youth voices are promoted via events, media and engagement with decision makers
- Co-ordinate all communications between volunteers, staff and external organisations
- Research and implement best practice in participant engagement and mobilisation
- Develop and maintain a database of all SpunOut.ie interns and volunteers
- Develop and maintain SpunOut.ie participant membership and user base
- Develop and maintain appropriate orientation for interns, volunteers and participants, in line with Youth Protection Policy
- Develop and maintain appropriate training for staff team on communicating and working with interns, volunteers and participants, in line with Youth Protection Policy
SpunOut.ie youth voices:
- Responsible for ensuring issues of importance to young people are key to SpunOut.ie strategic and programme planning
- Mobilise young people, via the Internet, to speak out on issues of importance
- Leading the development and delivery of online activities aimed at mobilising young people on personal and social change
- Support the SpunOut.ie Editor in developing and publishing youth voices content, that promotes young people’s voices, on personal and social issues
Youth Summit, Academy of Activism, Super Hero Grants:
- Lead on delivery of the Action Summit by and for young people, showcasing models of effective social change and facilitating civic engagement workshops
- Lead on delivery of the Academy of Activism, providing young people with activism training, showcasing models of effective social change, and providing opportunities to engage with decision-makers
- Lead on delivery of the Super Hero Grants programme providing funding to young people’s effective social change project proposals
Youth participation in decision-making:
- Develop appropriate structures and foster opportunities for young people to engage with decision-makers in relation to issues of importance to young people
- Support, as appropriate, the development of youth participation structures for State Departments (OMC, Ombudsman for Children, Active Citizenship Office, etc)
- Pro-actively co-ordinate the roll-out of opportunities for meaningful communications between decision makers and young people
- Ongoing research into best practice in meaningful youth participation and decision making
Outreach:
- Lead on outreach (online and offline) where young people are the target audience and in youth settings
General:
- Note Garda clearance required for this position.
About the person
Essential experience and education:
- Relevant third level qualification or equivalent experience.
- At least three years experience working with young people.
- Demonstrable experience of recruitment, management , training and support of young people.
- Experience organising events to engage with young people to inform, educate and inspire young people.
- Experience & knowledge of youth protection legislation & practice.
- Experience in producing analytical and well-presented reports and publications
- Experience of monitoring and evaluation, with proven background in delivering on organisation targets within agreed budgets and timeframes
Essential skills and attributes:
- Excellent organisational and project management skills
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
- Good interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties
- An interest and understanding of youth health and social issues, and the Internet as a tool for youth engagement
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders across multiple sectors (Government, Business, Media, Youth)
- Demonstrable understanding of the NGO sector
- Knowledge of ICT and social media engagement
- Excellent Internet and email skills
- High proficiency with Word, MS Excel, Powerpoint and Access
- Ability to work in a small, inter-dependent team and willingness and capacity to take the initiative
