Job Title: Communications Officer
Reporting to: CEO
Purpose of Job: Responsible for SpunOut.ie’s national profile amongst primary and secondary target groups.
Location: Dublin
Salary: €30,000 - €40,000

Development & delivery of communications and marketing strategy
- Support the development of the annual communications and marketing strategy in line with the organisation strategic and fundraising plans
- Responsible for the delivery of key performance indicators, as requested by line manager in relation to communications and marketing
- Responsible for the effective implementation of the communications and marketing strategy, including media, events, traditional/materials, secondary audience stakeholders
- Undertake an annual review of the organisation’s internal and external communications
- Form communications and marketing advisory group (including young people, staff and advisors) and meet quarterly
- Source and support pro-bono communications, marketing and fundraising expertise, including volunteers and interns
- Evaluate effectiveness of all communications, marketing and fundraising activities, including cost-effectiveness and social impact
Communications and marketing activities
- Oversee the design, production and dissemination of tailored marketing materials
- Compile and disseminate monthly (secondary audience) stakeholder update
- Event management
- Investigate new marketing and communications revenue streams
- Research of best practice in communications and marketing for the charity sector, including targeting youth and funders
- Advise on and support developments in internal communications and reporting systems
- Promotional partnership development with relevant youth, health and community organisations, media outlets and companies
- Lead on outreach (online and offline) to secondary audiences
Media management
- Responsible for relationship management and coordination of all media activity including interviews and features
- Responsible for relationship building with media and connecting with other SpunOut.ie staff.
- Represent the organisation and SpunOut.ie in media, as appropriate
- Ongoing promotion of the organisation and SpunOut.ie through mainstream media channels and relevant online and print newsletters, journals and e-bulletins
- Provide support as required for CEO, other staff and youth media representatives
- Responsible for fostering regular media opportunities for young people
- Support the development of youth capacity for media self-representation
- Responsible for monthly reporting on media mentions.
Community and public relations
- Responsible for effective and accurate portrayal of the organisation and SpunOut.ie identity online in all communications, representations and materials
- Represent the organisation in relation to key opportunities to raise the organisation’s profile among primary and secondary target groups
- Foster a positive profile of the organisation in the public domain
General
- Participate in team decision-making processes
- Training other staff in media relations
- Ensure adequate planning to meet quarterly and annual objectives
- Monitoring, reporting and evaluation duties as requested
- Monitor youth engagement, youth media and youth mobilisation statistics and trends and prepare reports as requested
- Work towards and report on agreed key performance indicators
- Other duties as appropriate to the post
- Note Garda clearance required for this position.
About the person
Essential experience and education:
- Relevant third level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Considerable direct experience working in communications/marketing.
- Experience in producing analytical and well-presented reports and publications
- Experience of monitoring and evaluation, with proven background in delivering on organisation targets within agreed budgets and timeframes
Essential skills and attributes:
- Excellent organisational and project management skills
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
- Experience within and demonstratable understanding of the NGO sector in Ireland
- Ability to manage reactive media work and to plan for proactive media work
- An interest and understanding of youth health and social issues, and the Internet as a tool for youth engagement
- Good interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders across multiple sectors (Government, Business, Media, young people)
- Demonstratable understanding of the NGO sector
- Knowledge of ICT and social media engagement
- Excellent Internet and email skills
- High proficiency with Word, MS Excel, Powerpoint and Access
- Ability to work in a small, inter-dependent team and willingness and capacity to take the initiative
