SpunOut.ie Blog: Energy and serious ooooooomph factor from Ireland's Young Social Innovators!
The Young Social Innovators Showcase (YSI) 2007 took place in Dublin on May 9th and 10th and I was there to check it out and represent SpunOut.ie. This was my first ever YSI and I have to say I was more than surprised!

The first thing that struck me as I entered was the amazing buzz floating around the arena. I was hit with splashes of colour, laughter, resourcefulness, originality, enthusiasm and talent. Work, energy and serious ooooooomph had gone into every single stall that I passed by It was just fantastic to see.

The Young Social Innovators aims to develop social awareness and activism amongst the youth of Ireland. Students choose a topic they feel could in effect generate social change. The theme chosen is then thoroughly investigated and researched. Original and innovative ideas to help resolve the problem are created by each team, generating positive social change.

Action and power! In working together so much can be achieved. I think it’s easy to sit back and think ‘well what can I do? What difference can one person make?’ Thankfully not everyone thinks like that or the world would be a horrific place to live in. The fact is we can all make a difference. It’s a case of getting up off our asses like the young social innovators and doing something to help make a change in all of our lives.
