Blog: Giving thanks for funds raised by the Cliona Ring Foundation.

Article by : SpunOut.ie

SpunOut.ie Youth Board member, Andrew Gibbons recently represented SpunOut.ie at the Cliona Ring Foundation’s CD launch.

The Foundation raised €25,000 for charity and kindly donated €5,000 to SpunOut.ie. All the crew at SpunOut.ie would like to say a huge thank you to the Foundation for their support!

These are Andrew’s thoughts on his trip to Limerick for the CD launch:

When you get an email from ‘The Boss’ in SpunOut.ie asking if you could possibly go to Limerick to receive a large, oversized novelty cheque for SpunOut.ie, you just can’t say no!

So, I hastily volunteered and armed with navigational details supplied by SpunOut.ie HQ, I was on my way to Bruff, County Limerick to represent SpunOut.ie at the Cliona Ring Foundation’s CD launch.

The Foundation was set up by Terry and Brendan Ring, whose daughter, Cliona, was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was seven years old. Cliona then went on to live a very full life and in the words of her mother: "touched the hearts of many people". Cliona died in December 2006 just a month short of her sixteenth birthday.

While Terry and Brendan had to take a lot of time off work they managed financially but saw many families who had to take time off to look after ill children and as a result struggled financially. So when Cliona died, they decided to set up the Foundation.

Between auctions and other fundraising events they raised an amazing €25,000, which they decided to distribute between five charities, including SpunOut.ie. The fact that the Foundation raised so much money from events is proof that the spirit of generosity and charity is still alive and well in Ireland. A great night was had by all at the launch…the spirit of craic is still around too!

Needless to say, everyone at SpunOut.ie is delighted to have this very generous donation. We’d all like to say a big ‘thank you!’ once again and wish Terry, Brendan and everyone involved with the Cliona Ring Foundation the best of luck in future!
