BLOG: Beat the bailout blues

Keeping it together while the country falls apart.

Article by : SpunOut.ie

It’s been a heavy going few weeks! It’s hard to get a break from the chaos buzzing through Irish homes, heads and hearts and hanging in the air right there with the smell of burning peat. Fiery newspaper headlines, Facebook posts ranging from disgust to calls for riot firing off like machine guns, and a constant drone of sighs, shouts and sarcastic laughs tinged with some mighty bitterness.

We are in the midst of serious social turmoil and unless you’re in some magical bubble (or living with a goat out in Connemara!), it’s hard not to feel the strange effects.

Deep breathe everyone! Seriously! This is some crazy (or exciting, or overwhelming, or enraging, or worrying) shit, depending on the moment!

A few tips for Beating the Bailout Blues:

  • Talk! Do your best to mind yourself and look out for others. Notice someone seems off? Say something. Have a feeling your parents are really worried? Ask them. Seems like your mates are hitting the bottle extra hard these days? Chat to them. Feeling shit yourself? Please let someone know. It’s very likely you’ll fall on sympathetic ears.

Above all folks, as one wise Cavan man says: "When the going gets tough the tough gets going, so grab your wetsuits and hang tight!"
