Clever activism in action.

'Learn from your mistakes’ is a phrase we always hear, and it’s fairly sound advice. However, I’ve always thought it would be much better to learn from mistakes made by other people. In one of our 'gossip over coffee' sessions up here in the SpunOut.ie attic, we discovered that between us and our friends, we have over 100 years experience in social activism campaigning between us – really!!! (Check out those wrinkles.)

We are proud to tell you we have made every mistake in the book and then some.  One thing we agree on here though is that social change is possible – sure it takes effort, and of course it takes imagination and creativity, but we know already that you guys all have plenty of that stuff. We reckon that we can help with some of the rest though, and maybe spare all you budding activists out there some of the hassle and stupid ‘waste- of- time’ mistakes we made...

SO... WE ARE GOING TO RUN OUR FIRST EVER ACTIVIST’S SUMMER BOOT CAMP... (Seriously! No boots, no entry!)  And all mistakes aside, we will be roping in media experts, social justice campaigners, and even invite the odd politician in to account for themselves.

Are you interested in learning to take on the challenge of changing the things you don’t like in the world around you?

What do you think you’d need to learn if you wanted to launch yourself into action against say youth unemployment? What about a campaign in favour of a reduced voting age, or for more social spaces for young people or for an end to environmental destruction in Ireland? The list is endless, but if you can get back to us with suggestions /questions/ criticisms/ ideas, we are sure we can make this a really useful action packed course.
