The future: me, you, Ireland, the planet...
Blog: Join in the discussion about the future of our country and planet!
On Saturday April 19th the SpunOut.ie crew, working with Futures Ireland, brought together 30 young people from Ireland and abroad, to discuss issues around their lives, their future and the future of our country and planet.
The high energy day at the new Science Gallery in Dublin, featured discussion, debate and sharing on topics as diverse as education, health, transport, film, culture, equality, immigration, the environment, planning, politics, sport and media.
The main questions were around:
-What is your life like today?
-What do you think it will be like in 30 years?
-How would you like it to be in an ideal world?
This brought up lots of vibrant discussion on the problems we face and what solutions we need to put in place.
The discussion is now continuing online! We want to hear what YOU have to say about life now and in the future.

Winning writing from SpunOut.ie volunteer
SpunOut.ie Youth Board member Marie Duffy wins media award!
A HUGE congratulations to SpunOut.ie Youth Board member and writer, Marie Duffy, who won the written category in Northern Ireland’s Investing for Health Media Awards 2008. The competition is open to students in universities and colleges throughout Northern Ireland and aims to increase public awareness of health issues.
Marie’s winning article (published in her university's magazine) was an interview with Richard Alcorn, a young car crash survivor who now campaigns about the dangers of careless driving. Explaining why she chose this issue, Marie says: “I thought the story would be inspirational to other young people who had undergone a similar experience. I also thought that if others read about the reality of a car crash they might take more care on the roads.” Her article was the judges’ favourite at the Awards.
Marie has been involved as a volunteer with SpunOut.ie for over two years; as a writer for the website and as a member of the SpunOut.ie Youth Board. Marie has represented SpunOut.ie at a number of national conferences and is involved in decision-making to help ensure that SpunOut.ie meets the needs of young people throughout Ireland.

Exciting changes at SpunOut.ie
Blog: Two new staff join the SpunOut.ie team.
All the crew at SpunOut.ie are delighted to welcome on board two new members of staff, William Corless and Emily Lindenmuth. Emily and William will work together with the rest of the team to ensure that SpunOut.ie continues to grow, as well as to reach and empower all young people throughout Ireland.
William, aged 30, is SpunOut.ie’s Operations Manager and is responsible for managing the core business operations of SpunOut.ie. William studied electronics in college and has a wide range of work experience from the electronics industry to the hotel sector. William loves music, sports and travel.

In his own words: “Hiya, I'm Willie and I’m the Operations Manager for SpunOut.ie. My job is to run the finances of the company and make sure all the t's are crossed and the i’s are dotted. I’m originally from Galway city. I went to school in Coláiste Iognáid (the Jes) in Galway and then to the Galway – Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT). I love travelling and I’ve spent a few months travelling to South Africa and South America: bungee jumping, gorge swings, shark cage diving, parachute jumping, canyoning, white water rafting, sand boarding were great craic! Now, I just get my thrills from playing hurling and soccer and I venture out on a horse every once in a while.”
Emily, aged 24, is the SpunOut.ie Youth Participation Officer. Emily is responsible for devising and implementing a new youth participation strategy aimed at ensuring SpunOut.ie is a truly youth-led media platform.
Emily holds a degree in International Communications as well as an M. Phil in Peace Studies with a focus on community development and youth work. Hailing from the ‘streets of Baltimore’, USA, Emily has travelled and worked as a Youth Worker in various capacities in Ireland, Italy, South Africa, the UK and the USA. When not hanging out with SpunOut.ie’s young people, Emily is busy stretching on the yoga mat, experimenting in the kitchen with delicious vegetarian cooking and keeping active with sports, especially outdoors.

In her own words: “Emily here just wanting to send a big ‘hello’ or a ‘wasssupp?!’ as they say at home in the States to everyone out there. I’m the gal given the fun and exciting challenge to reach out to young people, stir up as much interest in SpunOut.ie as humanly possible and facilitate dynamic participation to help make SpunOut.ie bigger and better with young people leading the way. I’m always on the go, and love to keep my body and mind moving. A gruelling workout or getting lost in a good book while curled up fireside both float my boat. After skydiving from 10,000 feet over the Indian Ocean in South Africa a few years ago…ahhhhhhh… I’ve felt confident to take on any challenges that come my way- bring it on!!!”
