Experiencing SpunOut.ie

SpunOut.ie Youth Editor, Tracey tells of her SpunOut work experience.

I was allocated one week of work experience at school and chose Community Creations (the home of SpunOut.ie!). I chose to come here as I already knew Keith (one of the SpunOut crew) from different projects I had been involved with. The office seemed really homey (probably cause people used to live there) and the staff seemed very friendly.

On my first day I was a bit nervous, I was shown to a room with a computer and given a schedule of what I was supposed to do. I sat down at the computer and started writing. It wasn’t long before I got the hang of writing everything that came into my head.

As the week went on I started becoming more resourceful and started using the Internet as my library. I began using chat rooms as a way of talking to people and asking if they wanted to be part of the project. Most people were very helpful and even gave me their interesting stories.

I really enjoyed my time with SpunOut. I learnt so many new things, researching, writing  and not to hold holly while you’re cutting it (don’t ask!).

The crew at Community Creations were excellent; they treated me with respect and kindness and even as a friend. I’m so glad that we get to stay in touch and that I get to keep using the skills I learnt.

When choosing work experience for yourself make sure to choose somewhere that has some connection to what you want to do as a career, somewhere you have an interest in and most of all somewhere you will have fun. That is really what work experience is all about, learning while having fun.
