What do we do at SpunOut.ie?

SpunOut.ie is a website dedicated to helping you make informed decisions about things which may be happening in your life. It is also a place to have your voice heard about things which are bothering you or to provide solutions to some of the big, or small, problems facing Irish society.

SpunOut.ie provides young people between the ages of 16 and 25 with the information and skills to deal with the difficult things life throws at us and lends a megaphone for our voices to be heard to change our own lives and the world.

An important part of SpunOut.ie is to give a voice to those who wish to tell their story in order to demonstrate to others that they are not alone, and that we all experience similar difficulties through the course of our lives.

We publish articles on sex, mental health, alcohol + drugs, education, employment and much more.

How are we run?

SpunOut is unique, in that when we say we are youth led - we mean it. Seventeen young people from all around Ireland form the SpunOut Action Panel (SAP) which gives leadership to the organisation.

Our team of five staff leaders manage the day-to-day running of SpunOut while the SAP give us the direction and leadership to stay in touch with the views and needs of the young people of Ireland. The staff facilitate the mechanism for our young leaders to be heard and then follow their lead. Our staff leadership team comprises of our editor, youth engagement officer, web developer, communications officer and office manager.

SpunOut also has a voluntary board of professional types who take responsibility for corporate governance. The board also ensures we stay true to our mission to be an organisation by young people, for young people. We also have a member of the board, Mark Keane, who works closely with the staff leadership team to ensure they stay in good health and optimised to work hard on behalf of our young people.

Who gives us money?

SpunOut is partially funded through a mix of philanthropic, foundation, state and community investors and welcomes the support and involvement of people from across Ireland and abroad.

We are currently funded by Atlantic Philanthropies and the HSE, however our funding from Atlantic Philanthropies will end in 2013. If your organisation would like to support SpunOut and become a Sponsor, you can read more here.
